Biography
Dr. Azar Khosravani is a professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics at Columbia College Chicago. She has published articles in Probability and Statistics, Number Theory, and History of Mathematics in a variety of journals including International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Journal of Number Theory, Mathematics of Computation and Contemporary Mathematics. Her current project is in the field of Probability and Statistics studying Benford’s Law and its applications. Azar earned her Ph.D. in Number Theory from Southern Illinois University under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Earnest. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming, where she studied Numerical Analysis and worked on problems in hydrology. After earning her doctorate, she worked at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for seven years where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses including Number Theory, Abstract Algebra and Numerical Analysis. She joined the faculty at Columbia College in 2003.
For over a decade, Azar Khosravani was involved with the review of exams for the American Mathematics Competitions, a nationwide math contest sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America.
