Biography
Part-time faculty in the music department, teaching musicology. Craig Davis Pinson (he/him) is a composer, improviser, and writer from Mexico City, Mexico. His creative projects range from contemporary classical compositions, to improvised experimental music, to studio collaborations with singer-songwriters. His teaching has explored the social histories of popular music at large, with an emphasis on close listening. As a writer, his research has focused on audiovisual relationships in contemporary Mexican political cinema, as reflected in his doctoral dissertation, From Critical Realism to Politicized Expressivity: Integrated Soundtracks in Contemporary Mexican Cinema. Craig holds a bachelor of music in composition from The Boston Conservatory and a doctor of musical arts in composition and music technology, cognate in musicology, from Northwestern University.
