Biography

Randy is the founding producer of the Story Week Festival of Writers and chaired graduate and undergraduate programs in the Fiction Writing Department for 18 years. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in TriQuarterly, Mendocino Review, F Magazine, Writer's Digest, Brevity, Writing in Education, and elsewhere. A chapter from his novel-in-progress, All the World Before Them, was nominated for a Pushcart prize. For Story Week, he has interviewed diverse literary luminaries, including Salman Rushdie, Jonathan Lethem, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Ray Bradbury, Jane Hamilton, Junot Diaz, Hubert Selby Jr., Richard Price, John Sayles, Edwidge Danticat, Irvine Welsh, John McNally, Ana Castillo, Bharati Mukherjee, and others. He is the co-writer and co-producer of the Story Workshop® creative writing videotapes, The Living Voice Moves and Story From First Impulse to Final Draft, and had presented at AWP, NAWE, NonfictioNow, AAWP, and many other conferences on writing and the teaching of writing. He completed his undergraduate work at Tulane University and his AM and PhD at the University of Chicago. A Certified Story Workshop Master Teacher and former recipient of the Columbia College Chicago Teaching Excellence Award, he has taught creative writing students and teachers in England and Australia, as well as the U.S.
