FAQs

  • Is Summer Intensive Program required?

For some students, completing Summer Intensive Program is a requirement for their Fall admission to Columbia College Chicago. This information is contained in each student's admissions letter.

For all other students, Summer Intensive Program is strongly recommended.

  • What is the SIP withdrawal policy?

Students can withdraw on or before the first day of the program, Monday, August 12, 2019. If you withdraw, your $200 deposit will be forfeited.

  • Will I receive credits for completing this program?

No, the Summer Intensive Program does not confer credits. SIP is a 0-credit-hour program.

  • What is the housing policy?

Housing is required and is included in the SIP program fee. You will live at the University Center on Columbia's campus, in the heart of Chicago's South Loop neighborhood.

In the event that SIP is canceled, early move-in will be canceled and you will receive a housing refund.

  • Do I have to move to a new room after Summer Intensive Program?

Possibly, depending on your one-year room assignment. Most students will live in the University Center, but you may need to move rooms or buildings. If you are placed in an apartment-style room after Summer Intensive Program, you have the option to purchase a meal plan.

  • Are meals provided?

Most, although not all, meals are included in the price of the SIP fee. For instance, you may need to pay for your weekend meals during the program.

  • Is airport pick-up available?

You may take public transportation to get to campus housing at The University Center, 525 S. State St.

Students can easily take public transportation via "L" trains (the Blue Line and then Red Line), order a taxi, or arrange for a pick up via Uber or Lyft.

  • Will I have free time during the program?

Yes, you will have free time on some evenings and on the weekends to explore Chicago. For example, there are free dance lessons and a full band at SummerDance outdoors on weekends across from our 600 S. Michigan Ave. building. These events and many more are free and open to the public.

Additionally, Summer Intensive Program includes many activities intended to introduce you to the City of Chicago.
