Student-Produced Musical Theatre Concert Set for Feb. 15-16

Columbia students are collaborating to present the inaugural Musical Theatre Dance Concert.

Columbia College Chicago students are coming together to produce the Inaugural Musical Theatre Dance Concert, taking place from February 15-16. This is one of the first productions to be entirely created and performed by Columbia students from a variety of academic disciplines - Graphic Design, Dance, Theatre, Musical Theatre, Acting, and Communication.

Students Raynner Garcia and Aurora Boe will be co-producing and choreographing the project alongside student stage manager Whitney Ratliff and Columbia faculty Wilfredo Rivera. The production will feature music and choreography from "Chicago," "Jekyll and Hyde," "Moulin Rouge," "The Lion King," "On Your Feet," and "Kinky Boots."

The show explores a variety of styles such as jazz, Latin-Jazz, ballroom, ballet, contemporary, and Hip-Hop to create, according to Boe, "An eye-opening experience that will leave you with a new outlook on musical theatre dance. We hope to fill the audience with every emotion, and our production will leave you laughing, crying, and wanting more!"

The student producers have created an inclusive space that allows performers of any level and style to participate and try something new. "We aimed to bring together a mix of styles and personalities and to best represent our wonderful cast," said Boe. "Each performer you see on the stage will bring a different style to the table. Without embracing our individual talents and working as a team, we wouldn't have been able to create this unique show."
