Lollapalooza Music Festival Comes to Columbia's Front Yard
Lollapalooza kicks off Thursday in what some describe as Columbia College Chicago’s front yard—Grant Park. Lollapalooza is a four-day music festival happening July 28 through 31.
Home to the annual music festival since 2006, historic Grant Park’s proximity to Columbia’s buildings means that many students, staff, and faculty can hear the tunes from the comfort of their offices and classrooms. While many enjoy the festival in person as attendees, some members of the Columbia community participate in other ways. For example, Columbia Audio Arts and Acoustics alum Laura Les ’18 will perform with her band 100 gecs on Thursday and current Audio Arts and Acoustics student Alexander Innis helped build the stages, setting up motor cable rigging and speakers. “It’s nice to see first-hand how much work it takes to put everything together and make events happen,” Innis says. “It really makes me appreciate them and all the people involved.”
To help everyone get into the Lollapalooza spirit, Columbia’s student-run radio station WCRX prepared Lolla playlists for each day of the festival.
Enjoy the music, everyone!
