Columbia Community Comes Together to Select Local Winners of Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Columbia College Chicago is the regional affiliate for Cook County and the Chicago area for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Columbia College Chicago is the regional affiliate for Cook County and the Chicago area for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. The adjudicators for this affiliate include Columbia faculty, graduate students, and alumni, as well as artists and educators from the Chicago area.

This year's judges included faculty from the School of Design, graduate students from Business and Entrepreneurship, Communication and Culture, Film and Television, Visual Arts, and 10 alumni. Representatives from other local communities include: Chicago Poetry Center, Elgin Community College, and the South Side Community Art Center. Staff from the Admissions Office administrate the program and related activities and events.

At the regional level, works earn Honorable Mention, Silver Key, or Gold Key distinction. Gold Key work advances to the national level to be considered for national recognition and scholarships.

There were over 2,000 art submissions and 650 writing submissions, with gold keys going to 131 artworks and 31 written pieces in categories including illustration, painting, photography, poetry, short story, journalism, and more.

The exhibition and awards ceremony for the regional awards will be held at the Student Center on the evening of Wednesday, April 9.
