  1. What is the Weisman Award?

The Weisman Award is designed to help students fund the completion of a project they have started.  Recipients will receive funds up to $2,000.  The first half is paid in the fall of the award period, the second in the spring (pending completion of project).

  1. How do I apply?

You must enroll in the Weisman Award Info Session course on Canvas (between May 6 and October 20, 2024). Once you watch the info session video and take the quiz, you can complete the application.

  1. How will I receive my award?

Your award will be paid through the college as non-taxable income.

  1. When can I apply?

The Weisman Award is available to a wide range of disciplines, some of which need to complete their project during the Spring Semester. The award is on a yearly cycle with applications opening in May, closing in October, with winners announced in October.

  1. Who is eligible for the Weisman Award?

To be considered, undergraduate Columbia students must:

You must be enrolled in classes for both the fall and following spring semester in order to be eligible.

  1. I'm a recent alumni; can I apply?

No; you must be a current student to receive a Weisman Award.

  1. What kind of projects generally receive funding?

The Weisman Award committee is open to supporting a variety of artists in a host of disciplines. There is no specific project we seek to fund, but rather, projects that show a sense of vision, clarity of purpose, potential of artistic and professional growth and practicality and accuracy of timeline and budget.

  1. How can I make my project stand out?

A standout application has a well-crafted artist statement that provides a clear vision for the judges of what you plan to accomplish. What makes the Weisman Award unique is that it looks not only at the project in relation to your career but to the plans you have for the project after completion.
