The Dance Center Celebrated its 50th Season with a dynamic program filled with joy and solace, including 46 original works by student choreographers and 7 works by alumni.
As Hip Hop turns 50, we looked at Columbia’s connections to the cultural phenomena that has impacted music, dance, fashion, art, film, and so much more.
The B-LONG Festival celebrated 10 years of Hip Hop and Street Dance culture bringing together academic, commercial, and community practitioners including an undergraduate scholars research panel, student emcees, battles with 6 student cypher and head-to-head battle winners, student-designed awards, and Red Bull Dance Your Style Chicago Auditions.
The Dance Center received $80,000, by far the largest NEA grant awarded in Illinois, supporting “Dance Engagement and Quality of Life in Older Adults,” a research study conducted in partnership with Rush University’s Center for Aging.
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and DanceWorks Chicago participated in residencies and held company classes with students.
