Capstone Projects
Wren Sager — Tackling Eco-Anxiety Through Artistic Practice
Climate change is no longer the taboo “killjoy” topic that it was a decade ago. Most students are aware of the climate movement and many possess the concern and drive to want to do something to fight climate change and environmental injustice. The goal of my project is to create a PSA or a video essay about Climate Despair and how to combat it with hope and action. This topic is important to me because the climate movement needs as many people involved to create environmental change in policy, society, and on the individual levels.
Veronica Kostka — Investigating Microplastic/Nanoplastic Pollution in Lake Michigan
My primary goal is to raise awareness about plastic pollution, specifically microplastics and nanoplastics in and around Lake Michigan. Preserving the quality of freshwater is very important to me because it is an essential limited resource that we need to protect. My goals for this semester are to do research and understand more fully about microplastics in Lake Michigan and their effects on Chicago as a city. My end product will be a visual guide or poster or short video hitting the key points about microplastics and including ways we, as individuals, can help remedy this problem.
