Lucas and Sharon Palermo Memorial Scholarship

For continuing undergraduate students

The Lucas and Sharon Palermo Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Sharon Palermo by the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and the Columbia School of Film and Television to encourage talented students interested in pursuing careers in the television industry.

  • The Lucas and Sharon Palermo Memorial Scholarship is managed by the The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). All applications must be submitted online through the NATAS scholarships webpage.
• About the Lucas and Sharon Palermo Memorial Scholarship

  This scholarship was created in memory of Sharon, wife of long-time Columbia College faculty member Luke Palermo, who sadly passed in the Fall of 2005.

  Luke Palermo’s contributions to Columbia College, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the television community at large, over the last thirty-plus years are many.  Sharon, Luke's wife of 30 years, was an integral part of those contributions. Sharon always chose to work in education and was committed to those children she came in contact with far beyond her job. She lived life with great joy, whether absorbed in a mystery novel, a rousing game of Scrabble, a placid lakeside vacation, or cooking with Luke.

  A scholarship in her name is an appropriate way to remember this wonderful person.

• Scholarship Terms
  • Amount of this one-year scholarship is up to $5,000
  • Scholarship is applied toward tuition only
  • Students’ scholarships that are applied toward tuition may not exceed the amount of their tuition costs
  • Students must be enrolled at full-time status at the time of application and must maintain full-time enrollment during the semester(s) the scholarship is disbursed
  • Recipients will be asked to participate in thanking the donor(s) 
  • Scholarship may be used toward a study abroad program through one of Columbia's student exchange programs, excluding Summer sessions. Please note: Recipients who enroll in an independent study abroad program will forfeit their scholarship during the semester spent abroad
  • The rules and regulations governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts, or loans) will apply
  • Columbia College reserves the right to withhold the scholarship in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants
