Pougialis Fine Art Award

For continuing undergraduate students

The Pougialis Fine Art Award is a yearly competition that offers promising Fine Arts majors an opportunity to study as an apprentice with a senior artist of national and international standing for one semester and have an exhibition in a DEPS gallery. Scholarship applicants are expected to produce and later install creative work for the competition. In addition, the award is to help defray the cost of tuition.

• How to Apply

  Visit Internal Scholarships and click on APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS to access the applications. Only complete scholarship applications submitted by the deadlines will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.
  

  The Pougialis Fine Art Award application process is in two parts:

  • Part one - Complete the Pougialis Fine Art Award Application by February 1, 2025

  PART 1: COLLEGE-WIDE APPLICATION - WORK DESCRIPTION

  Provide a description of the work you intend to submit in the second application (painting, sculpture, installation, performance, etc.). Upload your description in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format.

  Please note: The description should be as literal as possible. For example - "I intend to show a series of between five and seven small acrylic on canvas paintings (12 x 9). The subject matter is a combination of still life and abstraction." Or "I intend to present an installation using found objects. The installation will take up about five feet by eight feet. Some objects will be placed on pedestals, some will be on the floor, some will hang on the wall."

  The description is meant to give the organizing faculty an idea of where the work should be installed.

  If you intend to do a live performance or show time-based work such as video, please indicate the approximate duration.
  
  
  PART 2: Installation

  The second part of the application the installation of arwork.

  LOCATIONS: 623 S Wabash Ave, 8th floor, Performances will be in room 420

  Installation: March 3-5, 2025 - Installation must be completed by 2:00pm March 5th

      - Deinstallation begins on Thursday, March 6th and must be completed by the afternoon of Saturday, March 8th

  COMPETITION: Wednesday, March 5, 2025

  1. Performances (if applicable): Wednesday, March 5, 5:00-6:00pm
  2. Reception: Wednesday, March 5, 6:00-7:30pm
  3. Judging: Wednesday, March 5, 6:00pm

  This installation will be organized by Fine Arts faculty.

  Please note: Applicants must complete both the scholarship application and installation by the deadlines to be considered for the award.

• Scholarship Terms
  • Both applications must be submitted by the deadlines for review by the committee
  • First place award: Up to $5,350, awarded in Fall 2025 towards tuition only
  • Second place award: Up to $2,250, awarded in Fall 2025 towards tuition only
  • Students’ scholarships that are applied toward tuition may not exceed the amount of their tuition costs
  • Recipients will have an exhibition in one of the DEPS galleries in Spring or Summer 2026
  • Students must maintain full-time enrollment during the Fall 2025 semester
  • Award may be used toward a study abroad program through one of Columbia's student exchange programs, excluding Summer sessions. Please note: Recipients who enroll in an independent study abroad program will forfeit their award during the semester spent abroad
  • The rules governing other sources of financial aid (federal, state, institutional and other grants, gifts or loans) will apply
  • Columbia College Chicago reserves the right to withhold the award in any year in which, at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee, suitable candidates cannot be found among applicants
