Thanks to scholarships, students attended the 2025 Chicago Women's History Conference, gaining insights into women's history and the future of women’s rights.

Three Columbia College Chicago students accompanied Associate Professor Erin McCarthy to Roosevelt University to attend the Chicago Women’s History Conference 2025 entitled “Past & Present Strategies to Advance the Rights of Women.”

Columbia students Amanda Baity, Chase Hartman, and Isabella Schleining participated in the event thanks to scholarships provided by the Chicago Women’s History Center, which hosted the event, and their partners. The conference brought together scholars, researchers, and advocates for a full day of panels, workshops, and discussions focused on historical and contemporary strategies for advancing women's rights.

The day’s events included a keynote address from Jamila Woods, a poet, singer and songwriter from Chicago’s Southside as well as panels and presentations on topics such as the Chicago Battered Women’s Movement, the Equal Rights Amendment, socialist feminism, and art and activism.

Workshops covered preserving the history of the League of Women for Community Service, strategies for advancing women’s rights, and more.

“The conference was incredibly valuable to our students,” McCarthy says. “It offered them a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving and sharing women's history and fostering diverse voices.”
