What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?The most surprising thing I learned at Columbia is that I have a passion for photography. I started out as a music major my freshman year but halfway through my sophomore year, I came to the realization that my true passion was in photography so I made the switch and started working at the Museum of Contemporary Photography. I have not regretted switching majors since.
What experiences or courses at Columbia do you feel have been most beneficial?
My experience working at the Museum of Contemporary Photography has by far been my most valued experience at Columbia. It has given me so much knowledge and experience on how to navigate the art world post-graduation in ways I would not have received in any other way.
What are your plans for after graduation?
As an international student from Sweden, my plans are to do my one-year Optional Practical Training, to finish my work in which I received The Weisman Award, and to complete my project with CPS Lives to document Chicago Public Schools.
Do you have any advice for current students?
Take the opportunity to build a connection with your professors and talk to them outside of class. They are eager to help and are great resources if you show that you are interested and care about what you do.
