Join Columbia College Chicago's American Sign Language Department for ASL Institute, a series of American Sign Language workshops to increase your skills and conversational fluency. These workshops are open to anyone interested in learning American Sign Language. Join us for the summer 2025 ASL workshop, two sessions are available!

  • Beginning American Sign Language Conversational Workshop

    This six-week workshop concentrates on development of conversational fluency in American Sign Language (ASL). Participants learn to accurately recognize and produce signs in ASL with appropriate non-manual behaviors and grammatical features. Workshop is a basic introduction to ASL, and participants develop expressive and receptive ASL skills through discussions of topics such as personal information, surroundings, residences, families, and activities. This workshop meets once a week and has two summer sessions. Our Deaf facilitator will run the workshop.

    Who can join? This is an ideal workshop for families or work peers. Come and learn beginners ASL!

    Course fee: $140.00

    Session #1

    Schedule: Meets two hours on Wednesday's for six weeks (5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.)
