Celebrating a Neurodiverse Student Community

Neurodiversity is the diversity of human minds, the unlimited variation in neurocognitive functioning within our species. The idea that there is one “normal” style of functioning is a cultural construct. When embraced, neurodiversity, together with other forms of human diversity, is a source of creative  and intellectual potential.

The recent pandemic brought lasting changes in the ways students engage in college classes revealing new perspectives and surprising new opportunities. One of these insights is recognizing the diverse ways a human mind can work, and in response to it, creating an environment where students can have vision, choice, and voice in relation to their learning experience. This can be achieved by an approach that combines universal design  with actionable steps for community building.
