Alicia Wormley
Social Media and Digital Strategy BA '23
"This school has allowed me to meet so many talented people both in and outside of my field, from my classes, the Semester in LA program, field trips, and more," says recent Social Media and Digital Strategy graduate Alicia Wormley.
What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?
The most surprising thing I learned was how to network with people. I am someone who isn’t the best at public speaking or approaching people, but Columbia has forced me to confront that and grow. This school has allowed me to meet so many talented people both in and outside of my field, from my classes, the Semester in LA program, field trips, and more. Being able to connect with them and find common ground with these people has been amazing.
What individuals or programs at Columbia were helpful to you in reaching your goal of graduating?
For me, I would say the Advising Center helped me a lot. I was blessed to have a good advisor, Samantha Freeman, who helped me plan my classes and gave me options and advice for every situation and scenario I presented to her.
What are your plans for after graduation?
At this point, I’m just trying to make it to graduation and from there take it day by day. I have applied to some summer internships and fellowships, so hopefully, I’ll get those and work over the summer. I also plan on building my content creation and social media management brand.
If you were going to sum up your experience at Columbia in one sentence, what would you say?
All of the highs and lows are worth it once that diploma is in your hand.
