Liam Taylor
Contemporary, Urban, and Popular Music BMus, Minor in Music Business '23
“This school provides so many opportunities to network with peers and meet people to create art with,” says recent Contemporary, Urban, and Popular Music graduate Liam Taylor. “You just have to grab the bull by the horns and get as involved as possible.”
What would you say has been the most surprising thing you learned at Columbia?
What I truly learned at Columbia is to depend on your community. This school provides so many opportunities to network with peers and meet people to create art with. You just have to grab the bull by the horns and get as involved as possible.
What individuals or programs at Columbia were helpful to you in reaching your goal of graduating?
I can only really speak for the Music Department, but certain individuals, including Typhanie Coller, really put my artistic identity and wants and needs first. The programs are hard because teachers have to cater to multiple individuals, but the vocal program especially has taken care of me and taught me a lot about my voice.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I am working as a background singer for a gigging band, and I am also finishing my next two EPs. I am working with a booker playing shows, and I’m really going to spend the next year developing my discography and increasing my fan base before moving to my next city.
If you were going to sum up your experience at Columbia in one sentence, what would you say?
Columbia is going to be what you make of it, so don’t just sit around and let the time go by!
